Locali – Best Vegan Sandwich Ever
My friend Megan sent me a link this week to a list of the top 10 vegan sandwiches in Los Angeles. My plan is to visit every restaurant and see if I agree. Yesterday I went to Locali on 5825 Franklin Avenue. Locali is a wonderful little restaurant that has a mission statement an arm long but here are a few things..
1. To ensure all meats or dairy are organic and from rances that ensure, natural feeds and humane conditions for animals
2. To use biodegradable and/or reusable materials for packaging and utensils.
3. to dedicate a percentage of profits and time to continued local and international philanthropy
4. To sell food items and beverages which are oranic, fair trade, and locally produced whenever possible from environmentally conscious vendors.
Not only do they do all that, but they also serve some of the best vegan food I have ever had. The sandwich shop caters to both vegans and carnivores so it is a great choice for family and friends who are not vegan. The sandwich shop caters to both vegans and carnivores so it is a great choice for family and friends who are not vegan. I had the “famous” vegan reuben sandwich and it was beyond delicious. The grilled rye bread was stuffed with russian dressing, sauerkraut, daiya cheese and tons of thinly-sliced faux corned beef. They do it panini style so the sandwich is all warm and gooey. Crazy good. They also serve vegan breakfast sandwiches, soups and salads. The restaurant is clean and cute and they are truly dedicated to the green movement. Hope my LA friends get to visit soon – these are the kind of places we all need to support!
Vegan Day 161 – wish me luck!
