Reduce Microplastics In Your Body By Replacing These Items

A couple of months ago, I found out that there were microplastics in my teabags. I was unhappy about that news, but it did motivate me to dive deeply into microplastics and how to avoid them.

Did you know that humans consume 5 grams of microplastics every week? Not only that, people with dementia had three times as many microplastics in their brains. Equally as troubling are these tiny particles have increased 50% over the past eight years.

Microplastics can cause inflammation and many of the nearly 16,000 different chemicals in plastics act as endocrine disrupters. Endocrine disrupters are chemicals that can interfere with the body’s hormone system, leading to various health problems in humans, wildlife, and especially children. 

Endocrine disrupters can mimic hormones, block their action, or disrupt their production, which impacts growth, development, reproduction, and other bodily functions. This is a serious problem and we must take steps to limit our exposure to microplastics in our bodies. 

So what should we do? I spent a lot of time researching that question. I also went to a department store to see the alternatives to plastic, especially in the kitchen department. To be honest – it was very overwhelming. Everywhere I looked – there was plastic. Cups – dishes – containers – kitchen utensils etc.

This inspired me to spend a lot of time finding items that will help keep you safe. FYI – I do get compensated by companies whose products I promote and link to on my site.

Microplastic Free Teabags

Remove Microplastics From The Kitchen

I have to admit this was one of the most challenging hurdles. Did you know most of the kitchenware in your home could be unsafe? I didn’t. Especially anything plastic which can easily leach into your food.

Additionally, check your cookware. Some nonstick cookware contains PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) which are a group of synthetic chemicals. PFAS are linked to many health problems, including cancer, hormonal disruption, and thyroid issues. I also recommend disposing all those plastic containers and never putting hot food in any plastic container.
